STYLE
Kenpo Karate (literally translated, "the way of the fist") is a martial art that relies on balance, timing, and speed. It uses both hand and kicking techniques with more of an emphasis on punching. Kenpo develops hand speed, accuracy, and striking ability.

Jiu-Jitsu ("the gentle way") is a martial art that aims to redirect the energy of an attack. It emphasizes taking advantage of locks, holds, joint manipulation, and pressure points to control an opponent without doing harm.

At DTS, Kenpo Karate and Jiu-Jitsu are taught hand-in-hand to develop students who are able to remain calm, maintain control, and act sensibly and effectively in most situations. DTS means discipline, responsibility, and respect.

PHILOSOPHY
One of the most important things to remember is to keep your opponent on defense. Do not let your opponent attack. Keeping this in mind, remember the words of Bruce Lee, "There is no effective trick to stop a properly timed, simple attack. Always remember the best technique on offense or defense is a SIMPLE ONE, properly performed." On offense and defense, aim to keep it simple. You will only waste your own energy by trying to perform more complicated - and possibly less effective - maneuvers.

"It is easy to learn the mechanics of an attack," Bruce Lee wrote in The Elements of Offensive Defense, "But to apply that attack in time with the opponent and at the correct distance takes a lot of practice."

"Every attacker must have within himself a touch of The Gambler," he continued. "Never attack half-heartedly - penetrate in - concern yourself only with the correct and most determined execution of your defense."

At Defense Tactics Systems, these principles will be fundamental to your training in Kenpo Karate and Jiu-Jitsu. The beginning DTS student will learn the 8-point blocking system, the mechanics of basic kicks and punches, and the mechanics of simple Jiu-Jitsu (self defense) techniques. Advanced students will begin to incorporate elements of martial arts philosophy - like the words of Bruce Lee and others - into the practice of the art. You will gain physical strength, mental toughness, and an undying spirit as your travel on your journey to discover your full potential in life and as a martial artist.
